California is a state in the United States of America that borders Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona. To the South, it borders Baja California, a state of Mexico, as well as the Pacific Ocean to the west. The population exceeds 39.2 million residents, and it is one of the largest states with over 163,696 square miles. It is the most populous state in the U.S. California has seen much history from some of the earliest signs of people populating the area for the last 13,000 to the most recent American period that followed the Mexican rule of the area. As the third largest state in the U.S., there are many different areas to visit. Some of the popular destinations include Big Sur, Yosemite National Park, and the Joshua Tree National Park.
