The California Automobile Museum is a museum in Sacramento. It was the first automobile museum in the west that has been established in perpetuity. The museum was founded in 1983, and it was original known as the California Vehicle Foundation. The museum was official open to the public starting in 1987. The museum houses roughly 150 vehicles that are owned by the California Vehicle Foundation and other private exhibitors. The cars in the exhibits date back throughout the last 120 years. The exhibits are in order chronologically to allow viewers to see the progress that has been made over the past 120 years.
