Midtown Sacramento, which is also known as just Midtown, is a historical area located east of Downtown Sacramento. It is largely residential and is known as the center of art, culture, and music for the Sacramento area. There are many bars, clubs, boutiques, and various dining options in the area. The monthly art walk attracts thousands of residents each month. Midtown also houses a large historic Asian community. Lavender Heights, located in Midtown, is the gay and lesbian district of Sacramento. It has been coined as the gay and lesbian community because of the many gay bars and restaurants. The area is largely defined by the music and arts festivals.
