Formerly known as the E.B. Crocker Art Gallery, the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California was founded in 1885 as is currently the oldest art museum that is found west of the Mississippi river. Within the museum, there are large collections of European art, Californian and American art, ceramics, African and Oceanic art, and so much more. It was most recently expanded in 2010 when the museum opened a new, 100,000-square-foot building. The museum was named after Edwin B. Crocker who was a wealthy lawyer and judge. They began collecting significant paintings and drawings before eventually opening their own gallery.
