Along with the goldrush, the 1840s and 50s also broght with it the Opium Wars, which, in turn, brought many Chinese people to California. While most of them settled closer to San Francisco, many of them settled in Sacramento. While little is left of the Historic Chinatown because many efforts to force the Chinese out of the area including fires, the Chinese Exclusion Act, and many other acts of discrimination. Though most of the area has been removed of its Chinese heritage, there is a small Chinatown mall as well as a museum located in the area which is dedicated to the history of Sacramento’s Historic Chinatown. There, visitors can learn of the contributions the Chinese made to the city.
